Visiting Chinese President Hu Jintao and his Tajik counterpart Emomali Rakhmon have agreed to enhance the good-neighborly and cooperative relations between the two neighbors, said a joint statement issued in Dushanbe Wednesday.
According to the statement, the two sides agreed that the Chinese-Tajik Good-Neighborly and Friendly Cooperation Treaty signed last year bears historic and realistic significance by forging a solid legal basis for the development of bilateral ties.
The two countries pledged to abide by the guidelines and principles formulated in the treaty and to carry out the implementation of all political documents signed since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the statement said.
Both leaders spoke highly of the current development of bilateral good-neighborly and cooperative relations and believed the rapid development of cooperation in various fields has brought tangible benefits to the two peoples.
China and Tajikistan will maintain frequent high-level visits and exchange views on bilateral ties and key international issues, the two leaders pledged in the statement.
They also made a commitment on furthering exchanges and cooperation between China's National People's Congress and the Tajik Parliament, as well as among special committees and friendly groups, in order to improve the legal basis for bilateral ties, consolidate traditional friendship and enhance understanding between the two peoples.
The settlement of border issues is of great significance, the two neighbors said, adding they will strictly follow all the treaties and documents signed on border issues and are determined to maintain long-term peace and make the friendship continue for generations in the border regions.
The two sides pledged mutual support for important issues concerning each others' sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The statement has Tajikistan reiterating its adherence to the one-China policy, saying Taiwan is an inalienable part of China.
Tajikistan will never establish official ties or carry out official exchanges of any form with Taiwan, the stance China highly appreciates, it said.
The two sides held that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization has developed smoothly and become an important platform for member states to deepen neighborly ties on the basis of mutual trust and benefit.
The SCO has played an important and constructive role in stabilizing the Central Asian region, and in boosting the common development of its member nations.
The two sides will go on to make joint efforts to continuously deepen practical cooperation in security, economic, cultural and other fields under the SCO framework, the statement said.
Central Asian countries have unique traditions in history and culture, and the international community should respect the countries' own development paths, which are independently chosen by their peoples in accordance with the situation of their countries, it added.
The two sides pointed out that they have maintained the same or similar stances on a series of major international or regional issues, and will strengthen cooperation under the framework of the United Nations and other international organizations.
The two sides advocated that international disputes should be solved through peaceful means and the United Nations should play a leading role in maintaining world peace and security.
Finally, President Hu thanked President Rakhmon and the Tajik government for the warm and friendly reception of the Chinese delegation, and extended his invitation to Rakhmon for an official visit to China, which Rakhmon accepted.
President Hu arrived here Tuesday for a state visit and the SCO summit. The Chinese leader is currently on a three-nation tour, which took him to the Republic of Korea and will also bring him to Turkmenistan.
